Saltydog is a restaurant and bar located on Kingston Beach, Tasmania, offering a refined yet casual dining experience with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients. The establishment, housed in a 1970s hotel, underwent a complete refurbishment for the new business, yet still retaining the building's original structure and design elements to pay homage to its history and the atmosphere of the seaside community. The result is a contemporary interpretation of the iconic Australian beach pub from the 1970s, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, catering to all.
Brand identity
2016
For this project, I was in charge of creating the complete visual identity. The objective was to capture the essence of the envisioned identity: a welcoming space with an emphasis on stunning interior design and fixtures, featuring key themes such as the 1970s, seaside, vibrant, sophisticated yet approachable, and playful. I collaborated closely with co-owner Pippa Dickson and the interior design team Brustman & Boyde to achieve a cohesive aesthetic throughout the establishment.
My deliverables included a well-defined brand identity, complete with guidelines for typography, colour palette, and asset utilisation. In addition, I designed menus, signage, a web and social media presence, promotional posters, and stationary set, and other printed and web-based collateral. I also played a key role in coordinating with external contractors for the production of printed materials and signage, ensuring the specifications and materials met the desired standards.
One particularly exciting aspect of the project was repurposing the light-box street sign at the front of the building. I utilised the stylised 'o' from the logo and incorporated colours from the brand palette to give the prominent light-box a sun-like appearance during the day and a moon-like appearance at night.
